Barbara Recommends My recommendation of the day is Volver, directed by Pedro Almodovar and available on dvd. It is the story of a family from the village of La Mancha in Spain, mainly the story of the women and the secrets and patterns and ability to forgive that connects and binds them. It has serious content yet is filled with humor. The women themselves are complex and interconnected. The cinematography is beautiful and the color gives the film atmosphere. I felt like I was there and I did not want to leave at the end. I also recommend watching the interviews with the principals.

this was a great film and i agree with my mom that seeing penelope cruz act in spanish is a rare and lovely treat. i also thought the other actresses were great, as was the cinematography, particularly the unique camera angles in some scenes.

I also saw the movie Sicko and altho I liked his first movie-and this one too-I also felt like health care can’t be that much better in other countries. The most positive difference is that people in some countries get health care no matter what-we just don’t know what quality of care they receive….
